Position Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health is recruiting for a full-time pediatric pulmonologist/sleep medicine physician to lead the Division of Pulmonology & Sleep Medicine as Division Chief at the rank of associate or full professor.

Applicants should have fellowship training in pulmonology and be board certified in pediatric pulmonology. The ideal candidate will have experience in an academic medical center, a desire to incorporate teaching to a variety of learners into clinical practice, and a strong interest in research and leadership.

Principal Duties:

• Provide clinical care to pediatric pulmonology patients. Clinical service will encompass outpatient clinics (including outreach work) and inpatient attending, including occasional inpatient consultations at the American Family Children's Hospital as well as community hospitals.
• Responsible for the clinical, educational, and research growth in the division and for mentoring junior faculty. Provide leadership and serve as an advocate for all division members.
• Teach to a variety of learners, including medical students, residents and fellows. Teaching can occur within the classroom, small groups and lectures, as well as in the delivery of clinical care.
• Research in an area of interest to the candidate is expected and, if on the tenure stream, some portion of the candidate's salary should be supported extramurally within the first three years.

Degree and Area of Specialization: M.D. or equivalent, completion of U.S. pediatric residency and pulmonology fellowship programs

License or Certificate: WI medical licensure, BC/BE in pediatric pulmonology

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience: Completion of U.S. pediatric residency and pulmonology fellowship programs. Interest in academic medicine and teaching to a variety of learners is essential. Development of an independent, funded research program required.

About the Division of Pulmonology & Sleep Medicine

The 111-bed American Family Children’s Hospital is the only facility in Madison exclusively devoted to the care and treatment of children, and receives tertiary referrals from throughout the state. The Division of Pulmonology & Sleep Medicine has a current complement of six clinically active faculty members, three nurse practitioners, two clinical social workers, three research specialists, a dedicated nutritionist, and a PhD scientist. The Division has an ACGME-accredited fellowship program. There are active programs in cystic fibrosis (including a fully accredited CF Center, multicenter clinical trial participation via a Therapeutics Development Center, and investigator-initiated research through R01 funded grants), neuromuscular, tracheostomy and ventilator dependent, aerodigestive and pulmonary hypertension.
