Overview
The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse at Beebe Healthcare is a clinically competent professional who delivers high-quality perioperative and post-anesthesia nursing care. This experienced RN demonstrates advanced expertise in the perioperative environment and plays a critical role in supporting patients throughout the surgical continuum. Responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessment, collaborative care planning, timely nursing interventions, precise implementation of care strategies, and thorough evaluation to ensure safe recovery and optimal outcomes. The PACU RN upholds all standards of patient safety, clinical excellence, and compassionate care within a fast-paced, team-oriented surgical setting.
Responsibilities
Identifies, labels, and dispenses medications and solutions safely and per established guidelines.
Demonstrates competency with insertion of intravenous lines.
Demonstrates competency with LIS lab and Invision process.
Accepts personal accountability for proper handling, judicious use, and optimum care of all department supply, instrument, and equipment inventory.
Utilizes the nursing process throughout the perioperative setting per patient assessment:
collecting, interpreting, recording, and communicating pertinent data relevant to patient care in surgery;
care planning--utilization of collected data to plan appropriately for intraoperative nursing care;
implementing--provides direct patient care to meet physical and psychological needs;
evaluating care--continuously evaluates patient response to nursing intervention and modifies care plan to achieve desired outcome.
Demonstrates and conveys theoretical knowledge and skills related to perioperative nursing care--understands the "why" concept as well as the "how" process.
Thorough/Accurate/Complete documentation of post-operative patient care. Demonstrates competency with usage of Cardiac Monitors.
Demonstrates competency with airway assessment and management:
O2 therapy, ventilator management, assisting with intubation and estuation, etc.
Understands, demonstrates, and conveys knowledge related to patient assessment and care with the pain management process.
Effectively demonstrates critical thinking, prioritization of duties, and time management skills throughout the perioperative arena.
Collects adequate and correct blood/urine specimens from patients as ordered by physicians, using proper technique and equipment.
Correctly labels specimens and processes.
Ensures appropriate delivery of specimens to the lab via courier or specimen pick up from outside agencies.
Demonstrates competency with appropriate set up and monitoring or PA lines--Cardiac Output, A-Line, CVP, Swan-Ganz, etc.
Qualifications
Prefer minimum of 1 year recent PACU or Critical Care experience.
Emergency Department and/or Critical Care Experience is preferred.
Must be knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application--assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
At time of hire, we ask that you either have a current active PALS certification or obtain PALS Certification within the first 6 months of hire.
